Daywind Writer, Dianne Wilkinson, Tops the Charts for the 2nd Consecutive Month

Hendersonville, TN (March 16, 2012) – Daywind songwriter, Dianne Wilkinson, recently had the honor of watching two of her songs ascend to the top of the Singing News Charts.  “Peter, James and John,” sung by Gold City, reached the #1 position for the month of March, with the Kingdom Heir’s “Tell Me Why” landing in the #2 spot: something Ms. Wilkinson had not experience in 40 years of writing.  “I didn’t know if ‘Tell Me Why’ would hit the top spot, but it did the next month, and I had never had that happen, either” shares the award-winning songwriter.

The song, “Peter, James and John,” centers on the night after the Last Supper, and the thoughts and actions of Jesus, Judas, Peter, James, and John.  As soon as the demo was completed, Daywind’s Vice President of Music Publishing, Rick Shelton, delivered the song to Gold City, in hopes that the solid lyric with a country gospel feel would find a place on their newest recording.  To Dianne’s surprise, not only did it find a place on the CD, but it also became their first single.  “They did a spectacular job on their recording of it,” Dianne says of the song. “And I was so happy to see it go to #1! It had extra special meaning to me because I had not had a #1 song on them since ‘He Said’ back in 2000.  It’s very gratifying that people have identified with this deeply doctrinal song that also has a nice ‘Gold City groove’.”

“Tell Me Why” tells the story of an unsaved man asking questions of his Christian friend, which leads to his acceptance of Christ.  Feeling as though the song fit the Kingdom Heirs exactly, the song was sent to them and put on hold for their CD, We Will Stand Our Ground.  The song became their first radio single as well, and landed in the #1 spot for the month of April.

“All I can say is that God will still bless and use his children in their later years,” comments Dianne.  “I’m humbly thankful that He is still allowing me to experience the joy of writing Gospel songs and that there are still groups who get the message I want to share out there to the people!”

“From the Cathedrals hit, ‘Boundless Love,’ her first #1, to ‘Peter, James and John’ and ‘Tell Me Why,’ Dianne Wilkinson’s songs are woven into the fabric of Southern Gospel music,” adds Rick Shelton.  “Because of songs, like these, that are simply prone to four-part harmony singing, she has been affectionately dubbed ‘The Queen of Quartet Music.’  The exceptional quality of her writing consistently conveys truths from the Word and encouragement for the saints.  Dianne is a well-loved member of the Daywind family and we couldn’t be more thrilled for her success!”

Daywind Music Publishing represents these exclusive songwriters: Caleb Collins, Marty Funderburk, Ronny Hinson, Scott Inman, Kyla Rowland, John Darin Rowsey, Sue Smith, Jeff Steele, Ben Storie, Kenna West, Dianne Wilkinson, Daryl Williams, and Gina Vera.

Daywind Studios Gain International Attention

Hendersonville, TN (February 20, 2012) –For Southern Gospel fans in the United States, accessing the latest music from top groups is as easy as turning on the radio or visiting the local Christian bookstore. However, fans in other parts of the world do not enjoy the same conveniences that so many of us take for granted.  Despite the obstacles, Southern Gospel continues to attract fans from countries as far away as Australia.

For Greg and Jill Lanyon, weekends consist of traveling to local churches and conferences around their hometown of Stanthorpe in rural Australia.  Although there are many Southern Gospel fans in this area of Australia, the genre is not widely sung, and Christian bookstores that would provide physical copies of the music are sparse.  Even churches are widespread, making it difficult for many families to regularly attend.  Working as a team, Greg and Jill travel to these churches, ministering through both the Word and song.  At the urging of close friends and family, the Lanyons decided that it might be time to take the next step in their ministry by having Jill record her very first CD.  “We are ministering in rural areas without a lot of spiritual influence.  These songs really minister and encourage the people who hear them,” shares Jill Lanyon.  “Doing a CD is a way to leave the music with them that they can continue to enjoy after we’re gone.”  After nearly 20 years of using Daywind soundtracks, the Daywind name was at the forefront of their minds when choosing the right studio in which to record the CD.  Upon further research and a meeting with Daywind’s Rick Schweinsberg, Daywind’s excellence within Southern Gospel music and involvement with the top groups in the industry became evident, and the Lanyons decided that recording at Daywind Studios was the right choice.

Looking for a professional, yet personal experience, all while receiving the best value for the money, the Lanyons made the nearly 9,000 mile trip from Stanthorpe, Australia to Hendersonville, TN.  Jill spent the first day recording vocals in the Daywind studio, with award-winning Daywind songwriter Marty Funderburk in the producer’s chair.  After completing the vocals on the 10-song CD, the second day included a professional photoshoot at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Resort.  Within a couple weeks, the mixes and graphics will be finalized, and Jill Lanyon’s first custom CD will be available for those congregations in Australia.

“Our experience with Daywind from beginning to end has been exceptional,” comments Greg Lanyon. “The professionalism of the equipment and the studio was great.  The equipment is very modern and the staff was great!  Thanks to Rick [Schweinsberg] for all his help in getting us around and we look forward to continuing our association with Daywind in the future.”

Johnny Sansom, Director of the Daywind Recording Department, adds, “It was such a pleasure working with and having the Lanyons with us here at Daywind Studios.  They found out about our recording services through the use of our soundtracks that they have been using for many years.  This is a true testament of how Daywind tracks are used around the world.”

New Release From Songwriter Of The Year, Gerald Crabb, Available Now

Sometimes I CryHendersonville, TN (October 4, 2011) – Daywind Records announces the release of a new solo project from award winning songwriter, Gerald Crabb.  The project, entitled Sometimes I Cry, is now available at retail stores nationwide and includes contributions from Marty Raybon, Weston Hinson, Terry Franklin, the Easter Brothers and Jimmy & Jennifer Layne.  Produced by Gerald himself, with assistance from Russell Jr. and Jared Easter of the legendary Easter Brothers, Sometimes I Cry features 10 songs that communicate the blessings and struggles of everyday life, drawing the listener in with its country feel, and speaking to the sinner and saint alike.

Best known as the writer of the Crabb Family’s biggest hits, such as “Through The Fire,” “The Reason That I’m Standing,” and “Please Forgive Me,” Gerald Crabb has penned over 350 songs, 22 of which have reached #1 on the charts.    Most recently, Gerald was named 2011 Songwriter of the Year at the 42nd Annual GMA Dove Awards, in addition to winning 2011 Song of the Year for “Sometimes I Cry,” recorded by his son, Jason Crabb.

“Before starting to work on my new album, Sometimes I Cry, I knew in my mind where I wanted to go with it,” shares Gerald Crabb. “I just needed to get with the right crew to pull it off.  I wanted the raw earthy sound somewhere between bluegrass and early country music, coupled with Christian lyrics.  It seems like God just brought the whole thing together.”

Gerald continues, “From the first song I did with the gang at Easter studio, I knew it was just what I had envisioned.  From start to finish, the photography, the artwork, the support from Daywind, and the guests on the album, everything has fallen into place.  I am very, very excited about this project.”

“When I first heard the CD, I immediately thought of Johnny Cash and Billy Joe Shaver,” comments Ed Leonard, President of Daywind Records.  “Gerald captured the gritty, real feel that so many artists are missing these days.  He sings from his soul instead of his diaphragm.  The lyrics and melodies take you into the life of a sinner, saved by grace, and trying to live his life for Jesus.  The listener feels pain, regret, melancholy, happiness and triumph throughout the entire record.”

The first single from the project, “Prince of Peace,” was released to Southern Gospel radio last month.

In addition to a new solo project, Gerald plans to release his first book, Through The Fire, later this year.  According to Gerald, “The book is an in-depth history of the award winning song along with many heart wrenching stories that are sure to inspire your faith in God.  I am amazed at how God has used the song to touch lives around the world.”

Sometimes I Cry is available at Christian retail stores across the country and digitally at iTunes and other outlets.  Bulk purchasing for gift and ministry purposes is available by calling 1-800-635-9581.

Artists Join Together To Benefit The Southeast Tornado & Flood Victims

Artists Join Together To Benefit
The Southeast Tornado & Flood Victims

Somebody Cares for the Southeast Disaster Relief Benefit airs Sunday, May 22ndon FamilyNet

 Somebody Cares

“The true character of a man or woman is made manifest through times of challenge.  Thank you to each of who have proven the substance of your character” –Doug Stringer, Founder & President of Somebody Cares

Hendersonville, TN (May 19, 2011) – That character was displayed when Christian and Country music artists came together Tuesday afternoon to lend their voices to the Somebody Cares for the Southeast Disaster Relief Benefit Special, hosted by Gary Chapman.  The two-hour special, collectively produced by Daywind Records, New Day Distribution, FamilyNet and NorthStar studios, was created to raise funds for Somebody Cares, a Christian organization that works hand in hand with the Red Cross, FEMA, the Salvation Army and others.  They currently have teams in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia assisting with everything from serving meals, removing debris and providing counseling.   All of the artists, as well as the behind the scenes staff and crew, donated their time and talents to raise money for this organization, and in turn, make a difference to those affected by the deadly tornadoes.

Artists such as Danny Gokey, Michael English, Ray Stevens, Rachael Lampa, Karen Peck & New River and Montell Jordan all came out to support this great cause.   For some, the reason they chose to participate in this benefit was a personal one.   The accapella group, Committed, winner of NBC’s The Sing Off, were displaced from their homes in Huntsville, Alabama in the days following the storms.  Lora Poore of the up-and-coming group, Faith 3, witnessed the storm’s devastation first-hand when the only part of the house remaining was the interior closet she and her family were in.  These stories, and many more, will be included in the special, as these artists convey to viewers just how many families were personally affected by the storms.

“Today, I had the pleasure of interfacing with some who many would consider celebrity, yet who were willing to become part of something bigger than themselves to bring hope to those who have suffered so much in the recent tornado and flood stricken areas of our nation,” shares Doug Stringer, Founder and President of Somebody Cares America.  “Their investment to participate in the Somebody Cares for the Southeast Disaster Relief Special was filled with moments of authentic compassion filled with emotion and, at times, tears.   The sacrifice of their time will help to bring attention and awareness to the ongoing needs, even when most of the media shifts to other news stories.  It will help to leverage and empower organizations and churches in their communities to continue to be a tangible expression of Christ love.”

The benefit special will initially air on FamilyNet on Sunday, May 22ndat 7:00 pm ET, and will continue to air repeatedly on FamilyNet, American Life Network, and other Christian networks.  Check www.familynet.comor www.comstarmedia.comfor more information on those airings.

To donate to this cause, simply text the word “icare” to 37284, or log onto www.somebodycares.org.  You will be able to donate any amount, and it is all 100 % tax deductable.  All of the proceeds go directly to Somebody Cares® to help the victims of this disaster.

Hendersonville, TN (May 3, 2011) – The Blackwood Brothers, LeFevre Quartet and Chuck Wagon Gang have teamed up with Daywind Records to present a brand new recording entitled, Keeps On Rolling Along.  This unique project, produced by David Staton and Mike LeFevre, provides a new generation of Gospel music lovers with a modern version of the Gospel Singing Caravan television show and tour of the 1960s.  The album features classics such as “I’m Too Near Home” and “How Great Thou Art” in addition to several new songs, including the first radio single, “I Always Have A Song To Sing.”  To promote the release of this collaborative project, the three groups will also be touring together for select dates this year.

“When we were putting this project together, we wanted the music and the arrangements to be very true to the original Gospel Singing Caravan of the 1960s.  That is why we chose many songs from that era and specifically songs that were performed by the original Caravan,” shares David Staton and Mike LeFevre.  “We also chose to put a couple of new songs on the CD that were penned from writers Dianne Wilkinson and Jerry Kelso.  Both of them have an amazing ability to write music that is true to that era both musically and lyrically, so even the new songs flow well with the classic material.”

Keeps On Rolling Along is available at Christian retail stores across the country and digitally at iTunes and other outlets.  Bulk purchasing for gift and ministry purposes is available by calling 1-800-635-9581.

Daywind Songwriters Receive Title Cut On Kenny Rogers' First Gospel Album

Hendersonville, TN (March 25, 2011) – When Daywind Publishing songwriters, Marty Funderburk and Gina Vera, sat down to write a new song, they had no idea that it would eventually become the title cut on the legendary Kenny Rogers’ first Gospel album.  But, nearly a decade after the song was penned, that is exactly what has happened.

In preparing for the release of his Gospel project, Kenny Rogers decided he would like to title the album, For The Love Of God.  When Marty Funderburk was approached about writing a song with this title, he recalled that song he had written with Gina many years ago, with the title, “For The Love Of Christ.”  The song was sent to Kenny Rogers, who loved it and asked if it could be re-written to fit the title.  Marty quickly accommodated his request, and less than a month later, the new version had been recorded and added to the song list as the title cut.

“Gina and I could have never imagined that, 10 years after we wrote that song, it would end up criss-crossing the globe on such a monumental project,” relays Marty Funderburk.  “We are so grateful to Kenny Rogers and Cracker Barrel® for allowing us to be a part of this album”

The project, which is available exclusively through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, is a collection of inspirational classics that each hold a special meaning to Kenny Rogers. “For The Love Of God” is one of two brand-new songs recorded for the project, the title of which was eventually shortened to The Love Of God, and features guest appearances by Point of Grace, the Whites and Winfield’s Locket.

Marty Funderburk has received multiple Dove Award nominations, including this year’s nominations for “Run And Tell” by the Bowling Family and “Blaze Of Glory” by Chigger Hill Boys & Terri.

The Love Of God released on March 7th, 2011 and debuted at #8 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.  Kenny Rogers has celebrated numerous country and pop hits through his career, including “Lady,” and his duet with Dolly Parton, “Islands In The Stream”.  “The Love Of God” is the second project he has released through Cracker Barrel Old Country Store®, following the 2010 release of “Kenny Rogers: 50 Years.”

In addition to the writers mentioned, Daywind Music Publishing is home to such great writers as Gerald Crabb, Ronny Hinson, and Dianne Wilkinson, among others. To learn more about Daywind Music Publishing, contact Rick Shelton at rshelton@daywind.com.  To purchase The Love Of God, visit any Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® or online at http://shop.crackerbarrel.com.

Daywind Artists Travel To South America With Compassion International

Scott Fowler, Scott Howard, Zane King, Gerald Wolfe, Rodney Griffin & Chris AllmanHendersonville, TN (February 16, 2011) –Daywind Records recording artists, Greater Vision and Legacy Five, recently traveled to Bogota, Columbia as part of a team from Compassion International.  While there, they witnessed first-hand the work that is being done through Compassion to reach the children of Columbia, as well as their families.

Over the course of four days, the groups were able to visit three of the Compassion projects in Columbia, which included nearly 1,000 school-aged children.  These young people of Bogota met the group of Americans with much excitement and celebration.  The artists not only spent time with the students at their school, but, also, were able to make home visits and meet the families of some of the children involved in the program.

Gerald Wolfe of Greater Vision shares, “I don't think I have ever been more overwhelmed by an experience than I was by this trip.  It has given me an even greater desire to reach people with the Gospel."

“I have been on three trips with Compassion and I never cease to be amazed at the real difference they are making in the lives of these kids,” expresses Scott Fowler of Legacy Five.  He continued, “Then these kids make a difference in the families at home.  Then these families make a difference in their communities.  It really is a remarkable thing to witness first hand.”

Zane King, Artist Relations Manager for Compassion International, comments on the impact artists have made through the organization, "The Southern Gospel music community has completely embraced this wonderful ministry by sponsoring thousands of children that are in need.  Along with many others, Greater Vision and Legacy Five have contributed their time and resources to our work all around the world.  More than 150,000 children gave their heart and life to Christ last year alone.  Clearly, the fact that Compassion lifts children, not only from physical poverty, but spiritual poverty, as well, compels our music community to engage in this Kingdom work."

National Quartet Convention Ends On A High Note With 100 Years Of Southern Gospel Music Celebration

NATIONAL QUARTET CONVENTION ENDS ON A HIGH NOTE WITH 100 YEARS OF SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC CELEBRATION

(Hendersonville, TN) September 27, 2010 –Days after the annual National Quartet Convention has come to an end, fans are still talking about the Saturday afternoon showcase that brought back some of the most influential groups of the past 100 years.  Produced by Daywind Records’ Norman Holland, this once in a lifetime experience allowed formerly popular groups, such as the Hinsons and the Speers, as well as many others, to take the stage for, what was for many, the first time in years.

Thousands filled Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY, for an afternoon of memories.  From the Rambos to the Downings and the Nelons, the groups came together to sing the songs that fans today still know and love.  With segments from the bluegrass families of the Lewis’ and the Easter’s, as well as former members of the Cathedrals and members of the current Caravan tour, consisting of the Blackwood Brothers Quartet, the LeFevre Quartet and the Chuck Wagon Gang, there was something for everyone.

Perhaps one of the most special aspects of the showcase was the excitement of the artists to participate in such an event.  Karen Peck Gooch, who began her current group, Karen Peck and New River, following a tenure with the Nelons, shares, “It was an honor and a thrill to participate in the 100 year celebration.  I was privileged to travel with the Nelons for 10 years in the 1980s.  Being on stage with them again was magic!  I can honestly say that every group that graced the stage had that special....MAGIC.  All of us were flooded with great memories and tears.  We will be talking about this event for years to come.  Wow.”

The Singing Americans featuring Rick Strickland, Dwayne Burke, Ed Hill, and Michael English were also a crowd favorite, with Michael singing his classic, “I Bowed On My Knees.”  Possibly the most anticipated event was the reunion of one of Gospel music’s most beloved quartets, Gold City.  Former members Brian Free, Ivan Parker, and Mike LeFevre joined Tim Riley to sing as a quartet for the first time in 19 years.  This moment was truly special for fans and artists alike.  Brian Free comments, “It was great to stand on stage again with my friends Mike, Ivan and Tim.  It was as if we had never been apart on stage.  Our emotions were high.  God never ceases to bless me in my life.  I hope we get to do it again sometime.”  For Norman Holland, this event was not only a once in a lifetime gift to fans and an honor for those involved, but also a special memory for himself.  He remarks, “For someone like me, who grew up loving Southern Gospel music, it was like going back in a time machine to visit the music of my childhood.  To be able to relive those magical moments was one of the highlights of my life.”

For those not able to attend, as well as those who wish to relive the afternoon again and again, the footage of the 100 Years of Southern Gospel showcase will be available for purchase within the coming months.

Daywind Records has always had a strong belief in forging new paths of opportunity for ministry through artists and music. As a result of that commitment, the company began an incredible series with artists called Live At Oak Tree.

The Live At Oak Tree series takes the artists’ music and life testimonies and presents them in an intimate setting, giving the viewer/listener an opportunity to feel as if they are sitting in the living room with each individual artist, getting to know them and their heart. Some have said that this series is “better than a backstage pass.”

We’ve been able to capture the artists in an intimate and personal setting, and they have shared stories about the songs they love to sing and life on and off the road.”

The first series of three Live At Oak Tree recordings, released in the spring, included Austins Bridge, Aaron & Amanda Crabb, and Crabb Revival. The second series, released this fall, included Greater Vision, Legacy Five, and the Booth Brothers.
